What is different about iPhone Duo?
Apple's first foldable iPhone opens from a 5.4-inch outer display to a 7.6-inch inner display. Apple describes an iOS experience that supports side-by-side apps, with availability beginning October 23 in its first launch markets, including the United States. These are manufacturer specifications, rather than results from our own testing. Apple's announcement.
The interesting benefit is the extra context a larger canvas could give you. Think about a train journey where you want a message beside an address, or a meeting where you refer to notes while composing a reply. Our interpretation: the format makes most sense when switching between screens regularly interrupts something you do.

Three benefits worth trying in person
- Compare information with less switching. Try your own email and calendar combination in supported apps. Judge whether the text is comfortable at your normal font size rather than relying on a staged demonstration.
- Give someone else a camera preview. Apple describes using the outer screen so the person being photographed can see the framing. For a creator, that suggests a useful way to discuss a shot before recording.
- Use the fold as part of your setup. Apple's propped-camera examples suggest another option for a brief video call or a self-recorded introduction. Test the angle you need; a folding phone is not automatically a substitute for a stable tripod.
Who gets the most from the larger screen?
Our editorial recommendation is to start with your last week of phone use. Choose three moments when a second view would have helped, then recreate them on a demonstration unit. A device can be fascinating without improving the tasks you repeat most often.
If you mostly send short messages and take quick pictures, a conventional phone may already fit your routine. Compare pocket comfort, one-handed use and the total cost of protection before deciding how much the folding experience is worth to you.
What should you check before buying?
Check current local stock, supported apps and warranty terms directly with Apple. Some announced capabilities have separate schedules: Apple Pencil support was described as arriving later in the year, so do not treat it as a launch-day feature. Current product details.
We have not tested the hinge, inner-screen durability, battery life or camera. Those questions need extended use and independent evidence. A launch explainer can identify promising benefits; it cannot establish how this particular phone will hold up in your hands.
